i am headed to estonia in about three weeks to love on middle school and high school aged kids. i am so excited about the opportunity to share some of my experiences with them and share with them about what God has done in my life! for the many people who don’t know where estonia is, it is in north eastern europe across from finland and bordering russia. for information about the trip check out the blog post below this one!

i have raised about $1325 for my plane ticket, food, and shelter. i need about $900 more.

this is where you come in. i have recently gotten into to crocheting. and since headpieces and headbands are so in this season, i thought i could share this with the girls i will be working with. what girl does not love a new accessory… with your help of a money donation (ranging from a $1- to whatever), i will be able to crochet headbands, flowers, and  bracelets in your name to take over to the girls. some of my girlfriends are going to help me with all the crocheting. they are really excited to be apart of this, and i am so thankful for that. once i get back i thought i would crochet something for all the donors! and if you are a boy, i think i can come up with a burley wristband or something…

for everyone who donates, it will be a gift from YOU to THEM. i will get your information and make sure they know the someone who funded their gift! this way it makes your donation more personal. it won’t be just about me. you will be giving two things.

estonia.

this summer i am going to estonia on a mission trip with some people i met at gcsu! i am really excited about the opportunity. i am going to post the letter i sent out to people for support, so you can see what i will be up to!

Dear Friend,

I have just finished my first year of college at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, and this past year has been incredible. Not only did I learn about math, science, history, and English, but also I learned things about life, God, and myself. It has been a year of new things and a year of growth. I have loved every second and would not change a thing about my experiences. I have been reading about God’s grace in the bible and learning to understand what it means. Grace can be defined as the free and unmerited favor of God. The grace that he shows me everyday is something that I really want to share with other people. I want to be quicker in “cutting people some slack.” This year at school I have met numerous people. Many which have impacted me forever. I have also been given the opportunity to go to Estonia with a group of students from GCSU. I am extremely excited about the opportunity to love on the people there and to share with them God’s grace.

Estonia is located in northeastern Europe touching Russia and the Baltic Sea. The team and I will be flying into Finland on July 22 and then taking a ferry over to Tallinn, which is the capital of Estonia. There we will spend a day prepping and adjusting to time, and then the following day we will head over to the island Saaremaa.

In Saaremaa, we will be working with Going Up Ministries, running a camp called English Camp. English Camps are a way for missionaries to come in and help the Estonians with their English and to share the love of Jesus. Christianity is new to the country; Jesus was first introduced to the country as a fictional character like Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. How crazy is that? Personally, when I hear that people have never heard the name Jesus or think of him as a fictional character, it breaks my heart. I want to share with the middle school and high school students about the love and grace God has showed me through the good times and through the hard times. I want them to know that they have a purpose. I know that I will not be able to do all of these things in a week’s time, but I have the ability to plant seeds in these students and encourage the discouraged. Middle school and high school were very hard years for me because I had trouble fitting in and rarely enjoyed school. I want to share with the kids and show them there is someone else going through or has been through what they are going through. I want them to know that they will not be given anything that they cannot handle. God is bigger than it all.

It will be summertime in Estonia like it is here. The kids will be out of school, so during the day, we will be working with the kids at a school and practicing English with them. In order for Estonians to graduate form high school, they must be fluent in English, so this will be a good chance for them to practice with us Americans and our ‘awesome’ English. At night, we will hold services and introduce and teach about Jesus. We will also be spending the night with the students. Some of the members of my team have traveled to Estonia before, and they have said the best yet hardest times are at night. At night is when we will break up into small groups, and I will love on and share my story with a group of girls. I hope to be an encouragement to them and to have fun with them. I am excited to talk to these girls, and I am know I am going to continue to learn more and more about myself through the whole experience. I know this is going to be a challenging trip with many questions that I may not even be able to answer, but I am excited about the opportunity to share my story and to love on the kids!

The trip in its entirety will be $2,100 per person, which will cover the plane ticket, boarding, traveling within the country, and food for the 10 days. I would love for you to be apart of this adventure in some way whether that is financially or through prayer. If you feel led to help me financially, you can mail checks made out to Going Up Ministries to the following:

ashevegas and its beauty.

so i’m sitting outside on my aunt’s porch in asheville. it is a beautiful morning. my sister is on my right side, and my mom and aunt debbie on my other. lucy the pup is just playing, laying in the sun. i’m in the perfect position right now. my aunt sue has the reclining deck chairs, and half of my body is in the shade and the other in the sun. when i look up, i see the blue sky with trees all around me. it’s so refreshing.

we are here to celebrate my cousin’s high school graduation. i am so excited for him. this past year for me has be so exciting, the best time of my life. i know i’ve said this all before, but the more and more i look back on the past year, i am so thankful for the opportunities i had, the people i met, and the growth in many areas of my life. i am excited for eldridge, my cousin, that it is now his turn to experience these things. he is really into film, acting, and tech stuff. he has the passion to pursue his dreams. i feel like that is something i am lacking, dreams…

let me think.

i want  to work with children.
i want to have a family and my own children (a long time from now).
i want to adopt.
i want to travel around the US and the world.
i want to sponsor some children through compassion and kiva and meet them.
i want to meet people from different places and realize how we all relate.
i want to shine.
i want to be salt to this world.

i really love my family. i am excited for eldridge and his new experiences, and for all the other graduates out there! this is going to be an exciting time for you. you won’t stop learning and growing. enjoy the time you have left with your familias and friends. soak it all in!

love.

four days left here.

then i am home.

bitter//sweet.

i’ve been busy. a good busy. busy with school. busy with friends. busy with growing. busy with all different kind of things.

this whole year has definitely been a year of personal growth for me. i have grown in my relationship with God, and through that i have been able to build numerous other relationships with people here at school and with some people back home. it has been awesome. i am loving learning about people and really digging into the word and talking about it. finding truth and meaning with it all. it is all so great.

i feel like being here at school i have been given a foundation, or maybe another layer of foundation to help me “go on” with life. it’s a big layer. a layer that probably has layers within it. it all comes back to having a relationship with God and then with other people. it is also a layer that includes the word. something i haven’t really ever gotten into, but reading it has been so revealing and comforting.

here are a couple things that have hit me recently…

James 2:13
For judgement is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgement.
– i just realized the other night that i had been being judgmental; it shocked me because i was trying so hard to not be judgmental, but when i read this verse i realized, i need to show mercy and to show grace.

1 Thessalonians 4:12
So that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.
this struck me. i have been working on becoming independent and not being dependent on people like my family, joseph, or friends. the only one i can be dependent on is God. He will always be there. this has been huge but also exciting. so today…i went and got my haircut by myself and without asking other people what they thought. i did what i wanted and didn’t rely on others opinions. i know that is silly, but it is a step… 🙂

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16) Rejoice always, 17) pray without ceasing, 18) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
– These are just a couple simple verses, but they have so much meaning to me. they are simplicities and truths that I need to live out.

there’s some of my heart.

let me know what you think…

and here are a couple pictures (just to enjoy).
