summer: week 3

June 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

so, this has been a really good week. it has been relaxing, and now it is filled with some excitement. tomorrow i have orientation at gcsu down in milledgeville. i planned with my roommates to eat lunch, so that should be fun. and after orientation my family and i will leave from there for florida!

every year for as long as i can remember, my whole family (on my mom’s side) stay at a beach house together for a week. there are about 25 of us, give or take a few. all in one house. it is something i always look forward to. over the past couple years, cousins have gotten married, and there are some awesome new additions to the family. a few years back, we always had a beach tournament thing with games ranging from cards, golf on the beach, volleyball, tennis, best sandcastle, etc. we have not done that in a while, and i think we are going to bring it back this year. it should be fun. the competition keeps it interesting, and i think we are going to add bocce ball to the events. it is super fun! here is a ridiculous/obnoxious video…

on monday, me, joseph, joe, colby, lucy, nick, and shane went to phil wickham show at mt. bethel church. he was amazing, and he seemed like a really nice guy. he is such inspiring and uplifting music. tuesday, callie invited me to go to a college group with her at bridgepointe, so we went. it was pretty cool. i really liked the people. they were just genuinely nice. then we watched the movie crank. that was ridiculous. i did not enjoy it. wednesday, we relaxed by the pool. then i had to go to work, but i am really glad i got to spend time with callie. she has been a great friends, since who knows when. then i ate sushi with joseph. it was really good. we got a yellowtail and scallions roll that everyone who likes sushi should try! then we watched the office webisodes. they were funny. i just hate how they are all so short, but i guess that is part of the whole the office idea. short, awkward, and humorous.

my parents’ church, HisHands church, is partnering up with other churches in cherokee county, and they are gathering clothes for kids that are going back to school. i don’t know too many details, but i think it is a great outreach. the kids will get clothes, a haircut, a backpack, and all the school supplies they need. i went through my clothes and my sisters clothes today. help out if you can, and here’s another video

enjoy your next week!

what if there is no God?

June 16, 2008 · 2 Comments

okay, so in the book soul cravings by erwin raphael mcmanus he makes such a great point. he talks about something i have always wondered, and i think it is something that many people wonder.

the question: “If there is a God, why does he allow such horrible things to happen?”

horrible things such as cancer, violence, AIDS, starving children, etc.

to answer this question: imagine there is no God, and ask yourself if there will there still be evil in the world. will there still be violence? will children be starved? will cancer still be around? without God, will there still be evil in this world? and i believe the answer is YES.

to take this even farther…
many people like to blame God for these things. in this scenario, there is still no God, so who is there to blame? we can’t blame him because he is out of the picture. “All we have left is us.” i don’t know who i blames. i avoided the subject, but i will not anymore. =]

God is there. violence seems to be only getting worse. starving children are dying. cancer is around out loved ones. we need to be activist to create change. we can’t point fingers.

this blog is for me to share my thoughts with you couple of people reading out there. there is so much going on while i am typing this, so i hope it makes some sense. comment please, and let me know what you think.

love and be active for good change.

day trip.

June 14, 2008 · 3 Comments

so, today joseph, joe, and i took a day trip up to amicalola falls and hike. we left at like 9:30 to stop by REI, and then we were off to the falls. the weather was perfect today. it was not too hot. on the way there, joe’s ipod was playing, and we listened to some really good music. i think it was casey darnell. the windows were down. it was really refreshing, and i felt at peace about some things.

i have been reading this book called soul cravings by erwin raphael mcmanus that joe gave me foreva ago. i pulled it out on the way there and started reading. i highly recommend the book. it is broken into four sections, “intimacy,” “destiny,” “meaning,” and “seek.” it has challenged me to start to explore who i am and what i really want. but anyways, as i was reading today, i was happy. i soaked up everything written on the pages. it was refreshing.

on the way!

so, i was totally thinking that this trip would be a fun, easy hike. climb a couple steps, see a waterfall, eat lunch, and head home. not so much. it was fun (when we were not going uphill), but it was not too easy. we hiked to the falls, and then we hiked about 2 or 3 miles past it, uphill. i am really glad that we went. i think we hiked for about three hours, and easily burned over 1000 calories. we laughed. we watched joe be harassed by a bee. we got lost on the way home in the car.

when we got back from the hike, i went to joseph’s, and we watched a documentary with his sister. it’s called czech dream. these film students decided to make up an hypermarket (mall) and advertise it, but the catch is that it is all totally fake. they are trying to show capitalism in the country. it was entertaining. check it out!

twas a great day!

there’s a first for many things

June 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

so, i have this blog now. i am not entirely sure what to do with it, but i have felt inspired by a recent event and some different people to start writing.

as of now, i am a nanny, and i work in the kids club at the gym. i love working with kids. i love being a part of their lives. i know i can make a difference while they are young. i have a heart for kids, and i feel as if i am suppose to work with them as a future career. i am not sure what though. i can’t picture myself in a classroom five days a week for the rest of my life. i want to do something different but still have an impact.

something interesting about me: the first thing that always comes to mind is that i am….nevermind i will save that for later. nobody ever believes me, although this is believable. i love sand. i like it between my toes. i still have sand in my car from spring break, and i like it. i like sand when it’s hot. i like to play volleyball in sand. i like to lay in the sand. i have even dreamed of the floor in my bedroom as sand.

anyways. goodbye for now.
